Oil and gas company Nexen Energy says cleanup workers were making progress at the site of a pipeline leak that spilled 1.3 million gallons (5 million liters) of bitumen, water and sand in northern Alberta, according to AP. Ron Bailey, the company's senior vice-president of Canadian operations, said Wednesday that officials do not know how long it will take to clean up the spillage. Vacuuming of the oil started last Friday and the spill was contained last week. Bailey says officials don't know precisely when the pipeline ruptured but believes it was sometime between June 29, when the pipeline was shut down so it could be cleaned, and July 15, when the leak was discovered. Bailey says the spill has not affected any residences or people.
