The spread of HIV has been reversed, meeting one of the 2000 Millennium Goals nine months ahead of schedule, dpa quoted the United Nations' AIDS programme UNAIDS as saying Tuesday. About 15 million people are on life-saving drugs and the global response to HIV has averted 30 million new infections and nearly 8 million deaths since 2000, UNAIDS said on the sidelines of a conference on development finance in Addis Ababa. New HIV infections have fallen by 35 percent and AIDS-related deaths by 41 percent, according to the report. The world is on track to meet the investment target of 22 billion dollars for the AIDS response by 2015 and to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030, UNAIDS said.
