Austria on Monday brought legal action against British government subsidies for a planned nuclear power station, dpa quoted the government in Vienna as saying. The staunchly anti-nuclear government filed a lawsuit at the EU Court of Justice in Luxembourg, arguing that the European Commission approved the subsidies for the Hinkley Point C in violation of the bloc's rules. The project did not meet EU criteria for promoting technologies that are in the interest of all the bloc's members, and the EU decision would distort competition, according to Austria. "Nuclear power stations are dangerous, expensive and not competitive in terms of business and ecology, when compared to future-oriented technologies like wind, water or solar energy," Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann said.
