An Argentinian citizen who was kidnapped in Nigeria earlier this week has been released, a police spokesman said Saturday. According to dpa, Spokesman Bala Ezekeil said Santiago Lopez Menendez, 28, had been released in north-western Niger State on Saturday. Argentinian media said the release already took place on Friday. "Our anti-kidnapping squad ... cordoned off the area," after which the abductors released their victim near the place where he had been kidnapped on Wednesday, Ezekeil said. The police spokesman said he was not aware of any ransom having been paid. But the Argentinian website Infobae said an unknown sum had been negotiated by Flour Mills, the company Lopez Menendez worked for. Nigerian police said no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
