Honduras' president says he has learned that his election campaign received financing from businesspeople linked to a Social Security embezzlement and graft scandal that has sparked large protests, according to AP. President Juan Orlando Hernandez says his National Party informed him that the funds involved 10 checks totaling around $150,000 in donations to his campaign for election two years ago. Hernandez said Wednesday that the businesspeople who gave the checks to his party were responsible, not the party itself. He denied any link to the corruption allegations swirling around the Social Security Institute. Thousands of people marched in major cities around the Central American country over the weekend to demonstrate against the scandal. Some called for Hernandez to resign.
