A congressional effort to reform US intelligence to end the government's bulk collection of US phone records received endorsement Friday from a top official in the agency that oversees the US intelligence community, dpa reported. The USA Freedom Act, which cleared a key hurdle when it was passed by the House Judiciary Committee Thursday, would meet demands by President Barack Obama that the phone record collection by the National Security Agency (NSA) end, said Robert Litt, general counsel in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. "I think the president has been very clear that he wants bulk collection to end in a manner that preserves the essential capabilities," Litt said in a panel discussion on Capitol Hill. -- SPA 00:16 LOCAL TIME 21:16 GMT تغريد
