The death toll from the earthquake in Nepal could reach 4,500, three times the current estimate, Information Minister Minendra Rijal said. "The most destruction was witnessed in Gorkha district, the epicenter of the earthquake," he said, referring to an area west of Kathmandu. "Nepalese army have launched a rescue operation with night-vision helicopters," Rijal tells reporters. Nepalese police told Kantipur, a Nepalese news website, that 45,000 people have been injured. National Geological Society chief Lokbijay Adhikari told Kantipur that Nepal experienced 65 aftershocks in the eight hours following the first earthquake.
