Surfers said they saw a 6-metre great white shark bite the leg off one of them near the coast of southern Australia, reports said Saturday. "The shark came in and bit his leg off and the guys helped him in and carried him up the cliff," dpa quoted a witness as saying. The badly injured surfer was rushed to local hospital and later flown to Royal Adelaide Hospital in critical condition. The attack happened at 9:45 am when about a dozen surfers were 350 meters offshore at Fishery Bay near Port Lincoln, the site of several great white shark attacks in the past. One surfer said the shark was seen swimming out to sea with the leg still attached by rope to the surfboard.
