France and Britain will push for a UN Security Council resolution to crack down on human traffickers, French President Francois Hollande says, following a request by Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, dpa reported. In the absence of a Security Council resolution, "we will suggest the alternative routes foreseen in international law," Renzi says after an emergency EU summit on the migration crisis in the Mediterranean. "For every type of military action you need a basis in international law," said German Chancellor Angela Merkel. This could be granted either by a UN resolution or a national unity government in Libya, she said.
