Kosovo's chief diplomat and deputy premier will be arrested if he arrives in Serbia, officials said Thursday following reports that Hashim Thaci is set to take part at a conference in Belgrade, dpa reported. Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic and a war crimes prosecutor, Vladimir Vukcevic, both said that if he shows up, Thaci will be taken into custody under charges of war crimes during the 1998-99 war in Kosovo. "Police will act in accordance with law and bring him to justice," Stefanovic told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting. "The investigation against Thaci has been suspended because he is out of reach to Serbian authorities," Vukcevic told the daily Blic. A former province with a majority Albanian population, Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008, nine years after NATO intervened against Serbia to end the war. Serbian authorities have charged leading officials who participated in the conflict with war crimes and issued international arrest warrants for them. -- SPA 20:03 LOCAL TIME 17:03 GMT تغريد
