Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani, has expressed satisfaction at the content of resolution 2216 (2015) on the Situation in Yemen adopted by the UN Security Council on 14 April 2015. The resolution is an embodiment of the international community's will to restore constitutional legitimacy in Yemen and preserve the country's unity, security, stability and territorial integrity. Madani considers that this resolution adopted under Chapter VII would put pressure on the Houthi group to stop its violent acts, abstain from using force to exert control over the institutions and resources of the State, and refrain from all its practices aimed at undermining the legitimate authority in Yemen. The Secretary General reaffirmed the need for all Yemeni parties to commit to resuming the political process in the framework of the GCC Initiative, and consistent with the outputs of national dialogue and the resolutions of the Security Council, with a view to finding a peaceful and consensual solution that would put an end to the Yemeni crisis, the persistence of which threatens regional and international peace and security.
