Jubeir said: "The aim of this military campaign is to defend the legitimate government in Yemen, and open the way for political talks, so as to enable Yemen to complete the transitional period, and move towards a better position in the future." He refused to describe the military intervention as a proxy war, stressing that the war is necessary, and there has been no other choice, as the Kingdom has tried in every possible way to avoid it. He further said that Yemenis have tried every possible way to avoid war, and made several agreements with the so-called Houthi militias, but they continued their quest to control the cities of Yemen, and they were on the verge of controlling the city of Aden, and then the request of the legitimate government to intervene under Article 51 of the United Nations should be answered. Replying a question on the Arab intervention force and his expectation of using ground forces in Yemen, Ambassador Al-Jubeir said, "The use of force in Yemen is to defend the legitimate government and the protection of the Yemeni people, and we have a coalition of more than ten countries involved in these military operations; and we are determined to continue these operations until achieving the goal," He added: "We have sufficient forces in the current coalition if necessary, but so far, the goals are being achieved through the air campaign."
