Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashed Al-Zayani, the Secretary General of the Riyadh-based Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) today lauded the GCC countries welcome of a plea from Yemeni President Abdrabbo Mansour Hadi that a reconciliatory conference be hosted by Riyadh for all Yemeni political parties who are interested in the security and stability of the country. Speaking before the 143rd session of the Arab League ministerial meeting in Cairo today, Al-Zayani, who took part in the meeting at an invitation of the Arab League Secretary General Dr. Nabil Al-Arabi, demanded all the Arab countries to support the call of President Hadi. He said the proposed conference will aim at preserving the security and stability of Yemen through adherence to legitimacy and rejection of the coup against this legitimacy, not having any dealings with the so-called constitutional declaration issued by Houthis, restoring the legitimate power on all the Yemeni territories in a way that helps Yemen to come out to safety, restore tranquility and resume the political process according to the GCC initiative and its executive mechanism and the outcomes of the national dialogue, provided that Yemen will not turn to a harbor for terrorist and extremist organizations. It is inacceptable to see the Houthis flagrant denial of the legitimacy in Yemen working through their seizure of power since last September, putting the country's president, premier and senior officials on home arrest, Al-Zayani said, announcing the GCC rejection of all the repercussions following this step aiming at imposing the status quo in Yemen. He reiterated the concern of the GCC countries over the situation in Yemen, noting that his recent visit to Aden and meeting with ambassadors of the GCC to Yemen came to support the legitimate presidency and government and underscore the importance of resuming the political process. He drew the attention to the deterioration of security situation in Yemen and the collapse of its political process, a development that throws warnings beyond the borders of the country and touches the Arab national security as well as the world security, calling on Arab countries to take a clear-cut and decisive resolution to help salvage Yemen through confirmation of its legitimacy and the GCC initiative.
