Seventeen people died and four firefighters were injured when a fire trapped people inside a shopping mall in southern China, officials said Friday. A storage room on the the fourth floor of the Yiwu Shopping Mall in Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, caught fire on Thursday afternoon, according to a statement from the province's emergency management office. According to witnesses, more than 10 people were seen stuck in the cinema on the fourth floor after the fire, the statement said. According to dpa, rescuers searched throughout the night for people trapped in the building. An earlier report from officials said 17 people were still missing at around 2 am. By the morning 17 bodies had been recovered, the emergency management office said. One firefighter inhaled smoke and is in a "serious condition", according to the statement. Over 300 people were evacuated from the mall but officials did not say whether any more were injured.
