Two people were killed Thursday when a man who had just been arrested lobbed a grenade inside a police station in the southern Philippines, police said, according to dpa. The suspect, believed to be suffering from mental illness, was later shot dead by police when they thought he was reaching for another grenade, said Superintendent Antonio Rivera, a regional police spokesman. The suspect was arrested for carrying a gun and four hand grenades in a village in Santa Cruz town, 990 kilometres south of Manila. Police confiscated the gun and the grenades he was holding, but he apparently had at least one more hidden on his person, Rivera said. Another three officers were wounded in the explosion, he said.
