Flooding sparked by heavy rains has killed 48 people and displaced up to 45,000 others in Malawi, dpa cited the newspaper Nyasa Times as reporting Wednesday. President Peter Mutharika declared a third of the southern African country a disaster zone on Tuesday and made an urgent appeal for foreign aid. Mutharika said floods have hit the south the hardest and put the number of displaced people at 23,000.
