Hosts Australia survived an early scare against Kuwait Friday as goals from Tim Cahill, Massimo Luongo, Mile Jedinak and James Troisi earned a 4-1 comeback victory to open the Asian Cup, according to dpa. Despite being roared on by a passionate crowd at the sold-out Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, Australia made a nervous start and fell behind when Hussain Fadhel headed home a corner in the eighth minute. But Australia fought back immediately and their pressure paid divided as Cahill lashed in a 32nd minute equalizer from Luongo's cross. Luongo himself nodded in a minute before the interval as he leapt brilliantly to meet a cross from Ivan Franjic and claim his first international goal. Captain Jedinak's second-half penalty and Troisi in injury time added to the scoreline. The win puts Australia top of Group A before South Korea face Oman in the other match in Canberra on Saturday.
