EPL says Lampard under contract at Man City, not NY City

The English Premier League says Frank Lampard is under contract at Manchester City not New York City FC.
The league statement came after The Associated Press on Monday highlighted the confusion over Lampard's status.
The New York team, which debuts in Major League Soccer in March, announced in July that Lampard signed a two-year contract. Shortly afterward, Man City said Lampard was returning to the Premier League on loan.
But in a Dec. 31 announcement that Lampard was staying for the rest of the season, City said his "contract" was extended.
Now the league says it "sought and received assurances from Manchester City that there is no agreement in place between the club or City Football Group with New York City FC relating to the player."
