At least 20 people were killed Wednesday in clashes between clan-based militia groups in central Somalia, officials and residents said. Militiamen clashed over the control of Saho village, which the autonomous regions of Puntland and Galmudug both claim as part of their territories, a local elder who did not want to be named. Most of the victims were militiamen, he added. Puntland official Abdisamad Gulled confirmed the clashes and expressed concern that the violence could continue. The clashes followed a decision by Puntland parliament this week to establish Saho as a new district.
