Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras said Thursday that the political uncertainty around elections for a new president will "soon be resolved," a day after failing in his initial attempt to win parliamentary approval for his candidate, dpa reported. Samaras is fighting for the political survival of his government, as Greek officials negotiate unpopular economic reforms under the final part of a European economic bailout package. He has three attempts to win legislative backing by December 29 for his nominee, Stavros Dimas. If he fails, new elections will be called, with opinion polls indicating that the anti-austerity SYRIZA party could come out ahead of Samaras' conservative coalition. -- SPA 20:56 LOCAL TIME 17:56 GMT تغريد
