The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani, welcomed the adoption of a resolution by the European Parliament that supports recognition of the state of Palestine and the two state solution, as this would support the rights of the Palestinian people and contribute to enhancing international efforts aiming at putting an end to the Israeli occupation and establishing the state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital. The Secretary General also commended the adoption of a resolution by Luxembourg Parliament calling for the government to recognize the state of Palestine, stressing that these historic positions go hand in hand with the resolutions of international legitimacy. Iyad Madani expressed his hope that these significant resolutions would be catalysts for the governments to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and recognize the Palestine statehood, while reaffirming the OIC support for the decision of the State of Palestine to seek a UN Security Council resolution to set a timeline to put an end to the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Land.
