A memorial park commemorating the more than 100 members of the German armed forces who have died while serving in missions abroad over the past two decades was opened Saturday, dpa reported. German President Joachim Gauck and Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen joined some 650 family members and friends of the fallen soldiers at the tree-covered site, located on the grounds of the army's operations command centre in Geltow, outside of Berlin. The memorial is named the Forest of Remembrance and honours the 104 soldiers who have died while on duty in foreign countries since 1993. Of those, 37 were killed in combat. -- SPA 19:15 LOCAL TIME 16:15 GMT تغريد
