AlHijjah 1, 1435, Sep 25, 2014, SPA -- The World Bank announced Thursday it would provide an additional $170 million to help West African countries contain the spread of the deadly Ebola virus, nearly doubling its total contributions to fight an epidemic that has killed almost 3,000 people. The funding, which still must be approved by board of the poverty-fighting institution, will be used for increasing the healthcare workforce, purchasing supplies, and building stronger health systems in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. The World Bank previously approved $230 million for the three hardest-hit countries, where resources and health systems have been strained by the worst outbreak of the disease since its discovery four decades ago.
