AlHijjah 1, 1435, Sep 25, 2014, SPA -- The United States has named Ambassador Nancy Powell to lead the Ebola Coordination Unit at the State Department. President Barack Obama declared the Ebola outbreak a national security priority when he visited the headquarters for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on September 16. He outlined a plan for controlling and containing the disease in West Africa, and coordinating with international partners to tackle the outbreak. "Ambassador Powell, working with leaders from across our government, is leading our efforts to build the coalition required to bring this epidemic under control," the State Department said in a statement late Wednesday. Ambassador Powell recently served as the U.S. Ambassador to India, and was the State Department senior coordinator for avian influenza.
