AlQa'dah 27, 1435, Sep 22, 2014, SPA -- Two of the five countries affected by the worst ever Ebola outbreak are managing to halt the spread of the deadly disease, the World Health Organization said Monday, although the overall death toll rose to nearly 2,800 out of more than 5,700 cases. "On the whole, the outbreaks in Senegal and Nigeria are pretty much contained," the U.N. health agency said in a statement from Geneva. In the latest reporting period, there were no new deaths in Guinea, four in Sierra Leone, and 39 in Liberia. A separate Ebola outbreak has killed 40 people in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where there have been 71 cases, the WHO said.
