Qa'dah 19, 1435, Sep 14, 2014, SPA -- Polls opened Sunday in thousands of Russian regions, districts, cities and villages, as the country's biggest regional election since 1991 got underway, according to dpa. Voters will elect 30 regional governors and 14 regional parliaments, three mayors and thousands of municipal assemblies. Overall, more than 75 million voters are registered, making this the single biggest Russian regional election since the end of the Soviet Union in 1991, deputy election commission chairman Leonid Ivlev was quoted as saying by Interfax last week.
