AlQa'dah 11, 1435, Sep 6, 2014, SPA -- Turkey's parliament on Saturday gave a vote of confidence to the new government, headed by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, according to dpa. Davutoglu, from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), received 306 endorsements, with 133 members of parliament voting against his government, the Anadolu news agency reported from Ankara. The new government was formed late last month, after Recep Tayyip Erdogan was elected president and resigned as prime minister, a post he had held since 2003. Davutoglu, the former foreign minister, is expected to work closely with the president. Most members of the previous government retained their posts. Erdogan intends to empower the presidency and make it a more executive-style post. The opposition accuses him of becoming increasingly authoritarian.
