AlQa'dah 02, 1435, August 28, 2014, SPA -- The Ebola outbreak continues to accelerate, with the death toll in West Africa now estimated at 1,552, the World Health Organization (WHO) said Thursday, according to dpa. The Geneva-based organization said 3,069 suspected or confirmed cases had been reported in Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. More than 40 per cent of all cases occurred within the past three weeks, pointing to an acceleration of the infection rates in the region, WHO said. The average fatality rate was at 52 per cent in the region, according to the organization, ranging from 42 per cent in Sierra Leone to 66 per cent in Guinea.
