United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) expressed thanks to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the generous contribution to displaced Iraqis. This came in a UNHCR's letter of thanks received by the kingdom's permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva and other international organizations Ambassador Faisal Bin Hassan Trad. Meanwhile, the World Food Program has announced its success in providing food assistance to thousands of displaced Iraqis who have fled the conflict in recent weeks, thanks to the Saudi generous contribution. WFP spokesman in Geneva Ott Kohler said, "The Saudi contribution helped the United Nations to provide food for the Iraqis, who were in desperate need for it." He reported that the Saudi contribution to the World Food Program is part of the $ 500 million donated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia last July to provide emergency aid in Iraq. For his part, Director of the Regional Office of the World Food Program in the Middle East Mohamed Diab said that the Saudi contribution helped the families that fled violence and persecution in the Sinjar area and saved lives. Country Director of the World Food Program in Iraq, Jane Pierce said, "The WFP thanks the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its generous donation which saved the lives of thousands of Iraqis," drawing attention to the fact that the kingdom is the main donor of food to displaced communities in Dohuk.
