A flooded coal mine left two dead as rescue operations continue for the 14 remaining miners trapped in northeast China's Heilongjiang province. Rescue work for those still trapped is ongoing, Xinhua quoted a spokesman with the rescue headquarters as saying. As of 2 p.m. Monday, they had pumped 5,700 cubic meters of water out of the flooded shaft after the accident happened at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Anzhishun Coal Mine in the city of Jixi, he said. There were fifty-six miners working in the shaft when the flooding occurred, 40 of whom were rescued, said the spokesman. The cause of the flooding is being investigated.
