The death toll from four days of flooding in Nepal reached 98, the Home Ministry said Monday, according to dpa. More than 120 people were said to be missing and thousands had been displaced. The southern plains of Nepal have been the most affected by flooding, as swollen rivers swamped villages, leaving people stranded on rooftops without food and water. Landslides and flooding caused by monsoon rains also destroyed highways in several parts of the country. A landslide in the central region earlier in the month killed 156 people, cut off the only highway to China and blocked a river, creating a potentially larger flooding disaster as the water accumulates behind the mud dam.
