The Health Authority in the Spanish Community of Valencia has activated its preventive protocol for a suspected case of the Ebola virus. The patient, who is thought to be a 30-year-old Nigerian man, was taken to the Sant Joan hospital in the city of Alicante late on Saturday night after developing symptoms similar to those of the virus, which has claimed over 1,000 lives in the ongoing outbreak in West Africa, Xinhua reported. The regional Health Authority informed that he had recently been in Nigeria, which is one of the four countries, along with Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia affected by the virus. The patient is currently isolated in a zero-pressure area in the hospital where staff are carrying out the respective protocols to guard against possible infection, while tests are being carried out to determine if he is in fact suffering from Ebola, which can have a mortality rate of up to 90 percent.
