Overnight thunderstorms dampened wildfires in North Cascades National Park in Washington State, but lightning threatened to spark more fire in the coming dry weather forecast. According to the National Weather Service, the area this summer experienced the worst wildfires, which burned 300 homes. Some parts of eastern Washington did not receive significant rain and are at risk of new wildfires from lightning strikes. Nearly 7,000 lightning strikes hit the city of Oregon sparking 14 home fires, said the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center. The city's main concern is of a fire burning in Hell's Canyon, which is a risky area for firefighters to control. Three years of drought across Northern California also have contributed to extreme wildfires.
