Jatto Asihu Abdulqudir, a 36 years old staff of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) was killed by the Ebola virus in Lagos, the regional bloc said late on Tuesday. So far, the virus has killed three people in Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation. The first two were Patrick Sawyer, who brought the Ebola virus into Nigeria, and one of the nurses who treated him. Abdulqudir, who had been under quarantined before this death, was among those who assisted Sawyer, who died from the Ebola Virus Disease at a Lagos hospital on July 25, Xinhua reported. The Nigerian government had on Monday confirmed 10 cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) with 177 persons under surveillance. Last Friday, Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan declared a national emergency, saying a sum of 1.9 billion naira (11.6 million U.S. dollars) will be released to prevent further spread of the Ebola Virus. Ebola, which has killed over 1000 people in West African countries, spreads through body fluids, is believed to be very difficult to control.
