A U.S. health official on Thursday warned that the Ebola outbreak will continue to sicken more people in West Africa than all previous outbreaks combined. The Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dr. Tom Frieden, spoke to a congressional hearing and said that the current outbreak is occurring in a part of Africa that has never dealt with the viral disease before. Frieden said that lax patient infection control and risky burial practices lead to the spread of Ebola, but that the outbreak can be stopped once approved public health measures are put into place.
