A man killed two people and took others hostages on Saturday before committing suicide in Osijek, eastern Croatia, dpa reported. One of the victims was the man's wife, a waitress in a cafe where he also shot a man, apparently a mutual acquaintance, the daily 24 Sata reported. The attacker, armed with an assault rifle and a hand grenade, held hostages and shot at special police units over the next five hours, until he finally turned the gun on himself, the report said. Marital problems were said to be the motive for the shooting. The 59-year-old attacker was a veteran of Croatia's War of Independence in the early 1990s, the newspaper said quoting neighbours.
