England captain Steve Gerrard on Monday announced his retirement from international football after 114 caps, including 38 as captain, dpa reported. At the age of 34, the Liverpool captain said he had agonized over the decision but said he was stepping down in order to prolong his club career. "It was a very difficult decision to make," Gerrard said in an interview posted on the Football Association website. "I have enjoyed every minute of representing my country. It's a sad day for me." Gerrard's decision means he is England's second-most capped outfield player, behind David Beckham, who has 115. -- SPA 20:27 LOCAL TIME 17:27 GMT تغريد
