The World Bank is preparing additional financial assistance for reconstruction work in parts of the Philippines that were devastated last year by one of the world's strongest typhoons, its president said Monday, according to dpa. World Bank President Jim Yong Kim said the proposed rural development project, to be submitted to the board next month, includes more than 62 million dollars to help farmers and fishermen in the central Philippines. The money would also repair 230 kilometres of farm-to-market roads in provinces badly hit by super Typhoon Haiyan, which killed 6,200 people in November. "I am here to reaffirm the World Bank Group's support for the courageous Filipinos who are rebuilding from the ruins of Typhoon Haiyan," Kim said in a statement released during a visit to Leyte province, some 580 kilometres south of Manila.
