Almost 2,000 firefighters are increasingly containing a wildfire in steep terrain in rural northern California. State fire spokesman Dennis Mathisen said the Monticello fire near Lake Berryessa in Yolo County was 55 percent contained Tuesday morning, up 10 percent from the night before. The fire, which has burned about 26 square kilometers, did not grow overnight, he said. Meanwhile, in eastern Nevada and southwestern Utah, crews increased containment of several wildfires covering a combined 85 square kilometers.
