One person was killed as heavy rains lashed southern Japan, disrupting traffic in the region, a news report said Friday. A woman's body was found in a roadside ditch late Thursday after apparently falling over during heavy rain in Kitakyushu city, 750 kilometers south-west of Tokyo, local police said. Cars, trains and local buses were stranded on some flooded roads in the region, dpa quoted local media as reporting. Rainfall of nearly 100 millimeters per hour was recorded in the prefectures of Nagasaki on Thursday, the Meteorological Agency said. The agency warned of more rain, mudslides, gusty winds, and swollen rivers in wide areas of western and eastern Japan.
