The heads of the U.N. World Food Programme (WFP), Ertharin and the U.N. Refugee Agency (UNHCR) on Tuesday urged government representatives to provide more funds to help feed Africa's 800,000 refugees whose food rations were cut to 60 percent. In a joint statement issued by WFP's Ertharin Cousin and UNHCR's Antonio Guterres, the officials said the cuts were, "threatening to worsen already unacceptable levels of acute malnutrition, stunting and anemia, particularly in children." WFP will need $186 million to restore the cut rations and to prevent cuts elsewhere, while UNHCR will need another $39 million to fund the nutritional support it provides to the African refugees. WFP's funding crisis cut rations for a third of the 2.4 million refugees it feeds in 22 African countries.
