Russian President Vladimir Putin has asked the Kremlin to cancel a resolution that would have paved the way for the use of military force in Ukraine, dpa reported. Parliamentary speaker Dmitry Peskov told the Interfax news agency that Putin had written to the head of the upper house of parliament asking that the authorization for the use of force be withdrawn. Putin's move was an effort to defuse tensions in neighbouring Ukraine, he said.
