Three soldiers were killed and one wounded Thursday in an attack by suspected communist rebels in the Philippines, dpa quoted the military as saying. The soldiers were on the way to buy medical supplies for an outreach mission when the guerrillas fired at their vehicle in Cervantes town in Ilocos Sur province, 260 kilometres north of Manila, said Major Emanuel Garcia, an army spokesman. Communist rebels have fighting the Philippines government since the late 1960s, making the movement one of the longest-running leftist insurgencies in Asia.
