New clashes erupted in the capital of Venezuela on Sunday, with anti-government protesters throwing rocks and gasoline bombs at riot police who returned fire with rubber bullets, tear gas, and water cannon. Eight people were reported injured in the unrest that broke out the Caracas neighborhood of Chacao, a center of anti-government opposition. Chacao Mayor Ramon Muchacho said of the injured, there were no bullet wounds. Hundreds of anti-government activists marked the Easter holiday in Chacao by holding a peaceful march calling for the "resurrection of democracy." But at the end of the march, hooded protesters blocked a main street and nearby roads with debris, prompting a confrontation with riot police.
