Students at Wichita State University (WSU) had the opportunity Tuesday to learn about Saudi culture. Saudi Culture Day educated students about the history and traditions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Attendees followed photographs on poster boards that featured a glimpse of the kingdom's history. Saudi students explained the significance of each photograph and the clear differences between the past and today. "I think it's really cool," sophomore Brooke Adams told the Sunflower, WSU's student-run newspaper. "It was very informative." Saudi student Adeeb Al-Qhtani gave a brief presentation about the history of the Kingdom. He said that it is important to inform the WSU community about Saudi culture. "When I first came here, most of my American friends and the international students had no idea what the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia looks like or what we have there," Al-Qhtani told the newspaper. "Most of them, unfortunately, have bad stereotypes about us. To try to help overcome those stereotypes and educate students about Saudi culture, Al-Qhtani began hosting events with his friends by forming the Saudi Student Association. "I think it worked. People like it and people started changing some bad ideas they already had about the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," Al-Qhtani said.
