Ships and planes were homing in on a patch of ocean Sunday where a Chinese search vessel reported picking up electronic signals that might be from a passenger plane missing for nearly a month, dpa reported. Officials said the signal was emitted at a frequency of 37.5 kHz, and might be transmitted by the Boeing 777's flight data recorder. An Australian ship was checking into another 90-second "acoustic event" detected Saturday in the 216,000-square-kilometre search area. The signals were heard around 1,700 kilometres north-west of Perth. Search coordinator Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston said the signals were an "important and encouraging lead" and provided "some promise" of explaining the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 with 239 people aboard.
