Sri Lanka's ruling party secured a convincing victory Sunday in a provincial poll, dpa reported. A total of 3.8 million voters cast their ballots for provincial councils in the western province, which includes the capital Colombo, and in the southern province. President Mahinda Rajapaksa's United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) secured over 55 per cent of the votes, while the main opposition United National Party (UNP) was only able to manage 26 per cent.
