Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived Friday in Berlin for a visit that included the signing of a 1-billion-euro (1.38-billion-dollar) agreement between Germany's Daimler carmaker and its Chinese partner, Beijing Automotive, dpa reported. Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were greeted with full military honours by German President Joachim Gauck before Xi holds talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel. Those discussions are expected to focus on international crises. Merkel was also expected to raise China's much criticized human rights record, something which Gauck got to before she did. He reminded Xi at a luncheon that human rights are valid all around the world and said the balancing of interests between the governed and the governing and among China's religious groups was a necessity. -- SPA 19:09 LOCAL TIME 16:09 GMT تغريد
