At least eight people, including five police officers and three civilians, were killed by suspected members of extremist sect Boko Haram in northern Nigeria, local newspaper Vanguard reported Tuesday, according to dpa. The insurgents purposefully crashed a car bomb into a police patrol vehicle in Borno State capital Maiduguri, according to police spokesman Gideon Jubrin. The suicide bombers lost their lives during the incident, while a number of other civilians were injured, said Jubrin. Borno is one of three northern states that Nigeria's government placed under a state of emergency in May to curb violent attacks by extremist Islamist sect Boko Haram. -- SPA 18:45 LOCAL TIME 15:45 GMT تغريد
