U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, along with President Barack Obama, met with Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca at the White House. "The President praised the strong and important friendship between our two countries and underscored the United States' deep commitment to supporting Moldova's European aspirations," the White House said in a statement . "The Vice President emphasized that the United States has a profound interest in Moldova's success as a democratic partner with strong rule of law. He also commended the launching of a new strategic dialogue between our countries, which will serve as a practical forum for strengthening cooperation, including on economic ties," the statement said. "Both the President and the Vice President re-affirmed the United States' strong support for Moldovan sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders," the White House said.
